We take seriously our statement of welcome: “No matter who you are… you are welcome here”. Children with special needs and others with physical or mental deficits are welcome, too. This means there are participants in our worship service who some might call “different” or “special”.
“Summit House” is a ministry intended to provide for the fellowship needs of some of our differently-abled adults. Once a month, those who participate in this program leave Sunday worship and gather for a time of attention focused on their stories and interests. Birthdays are celebrated with song and snacks. On other Sundays, the time is spent “just” in conversation. As the leader of the group says, “Sometimes, they just want to be heard.”
This ministry has been a feature of Worship at Wayside for over twenty-five years.
