Fellowship Activities

Book & Breakfast Club

Wayside’s Book & Breakfast Club meets in the back room at Black Bear Diner in Federal Way. We meet at 9:30am the 4th Monday each month, for no-host breakfast and free-range conversation. Please join us!

Quilters & Crafters

WaysideCraters

Some Saturdays at 1:00pm, Wayside’s Fellowship Hall turns into a workshop.  There are large, clean tables, iron and ironing board, chairs, light and plenty of space.  There is room to spread out project materials for a couple of hours of uninterrupted productivity.

The group is supported by Master Quilter Anne Schreib, who is always willing to answer questions or help with a tricky technique.  A variety of hand-crafts are brought in – quilting, stitchery, knitting, clothing construction, paper crafts, etc.

No registration is required.  Check the Wayside Calendar for next scheduled date, and just show up with your portable project.

Wayside History Group

We are in the process of scanning and photocopying documents and photographs important in Wayside’s 50+ year history.  When we complete the project, copies of interesting pieces will be available in our Memorial Lounge library for Waysiders to enjoy.  The original documents are being cared for and protected for long-term archival storage, as well as being scanned for digital storage and access.

The work is easy, enjoyable (lots of good stories), and has a fringe benefit that we can learn techniques of caring for our precious photos and other things we are storing (or planning to store) at home.

Poverty Bay Movie Club

An off-shoot of our long-running book club is a similar gathering for those who enjoy watching and discussing movies.  We meet for coffee or breakfast at the Poverty Bay Cafe in Federal Way at 9:30 am the 2nd Monday of each month.

The group is informal and the roster of attendees variable.  All are welcome.

Wayside Men’s Group

Meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM, at Wayside.  Those who attend enjoy fellowship, informal discussion, and occasional music.  All men are welcome.  Drop-ins are welcome.

Meetings usually take place in the large youth room.

Women’s Fellowship

Women at Wayside are involved in many aspects of worship and congregational life.  From time to time, our Fellowship Director schedules an evening gathering of women to celebrate our connections to one another;  share information about an interest or concern;  and, of course, eat!

Pot-luck dinners are sometimes organized around themes:  “Salad and dessert”, “Dessert first”, “Food from home (ethnic origin)”; or travel adventures.  Water, coffee, tea and table settings are provided.  Attendees often bring wine to share, as well as home-made or purchased soups, salads, casseroles, bread, side dishes or desserts.

A short program may be presented, or discussion on a topic is held during dessert. A wide range of topics have been covered, from “Retirement Planning” and “Domestic Violence Awareness” to a dramatic performance by Rev. Catherine Cummings-Bond, “An Evening with Harriet Tubman”.

Women’s Fellowship Dinners are scheduled approximately every other month.  Watch the events calendar for announcements of the next one.  Volunteers to help set up or clean up are always welcome.

Women’s Lunch Out

All women are encouraged to attend the monthly Women’s Lunch Out held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 1:00 pm at one of the local restaurants. You will find it to be a fun afternoon with good food, friends, and lots of wonderful conversation. Please join us. For more information, contact the church office, or check the schedule in this month’s newsletter, “By the Wayside”.
