Our Mission Statement
Wayside United Church of Christ is a joyful, God-centered community of faith, each of us in the process of our own spiritual journey. We value, celebrate and affirm: diversity, caring, humility and acceptance.
Called by Christ and sustained by the Holy Spirit, we covenant to make this journey together to:
- Nurture and empower one another
- Join ecumenically with other faith communities
- Reach out with love and understanding to all God’s people
- Promote peace, justice and respect for all creation
Wayside United Church of Christ (UCC) has served the Federal Way and Northeast Tacoma areas since 1959 but we continue to listen to a still-speaking God. We are a community of faith that seeks to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. A relatively small congregation, with just under 200 members, Wayside and its members and friends still strive to be faithful stewards to Federal Way and the surrounding area with our time, talent, and financial and other resources.
Whether you’re looking for a church to call home, want to work with others in making the world a more peaceful and just world, or you are simply looking for a place to worship, you are welcome at Wayside – regardless of age, race, ethnicity, economic situation, family status, political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, or previous religious background.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact our church office at (253) 838-0915 or email@example.com.
Who We Are
We are people who come from a variety of religious traditions. We honor diversity and strive to include everyone. We celebrate inquiring minds and we value people of all backgrounds.
We do not tell people how they are to believe but encourage people to explore their own faith journeys. We are committed to applying faith to the lives we live in our community and the world.
If you are searching a church home, please feel free to attend a worship service or call or email the church office.
Our Buildings and Grounds
The Wayside “Campus” includes about six acres of ground, with a wooded ravine, a large grassy area, children’s play space and a small grove of Douglas Fir trees, as well as the necessary paved parking lot.
We have two buildings. The Administration building holds the Church Offices, the Memorial Lounge, Fellowship Hall, Kitchen, Rest Rooms, Nursery and the classrooms in the Education wing. The Admin building partially surrounds our hexagonal Chapel, a separate building reached by crossing a bridge. The Sanctuary in the Chapel Building is the center of our congregation’s spiritual life together.
In the spring of 2013, Wayside made a major renovation and enlargement of parts of our 50-year-old Fellowship Hall. For pictures and commentary, click on this link: http://www.wayside59.blogspot.com
