Commitment Sunday

From 2000 to 2014, Federal Way grew by 12.2%. Wayside is a progressive Christian community in the epicenter of the ‘spiritual, not religious’. 62% of King County residents listed “none” for their religious affiliation on the last census.

Here is what our neighbors yearn for:

  • the appreciation for religious and cultural diversity
  • environmental concerns
  • care for one another
  • ‘Incarnational’ faith
  • reclaiming ancient spiritual practices
  • compassionate capitalism
  • authentic experiential worship.

– (Liberating Hope, Mike Piazza & Cameron Trimble).

Our culture, however, assumes we must be antigay, judgmental, hypocritical, old-fashioned, too involved in conservative politics, insensitive to diversity, boring, and not accepting of other faiths.

– (A New Generation Expresses Its Skepticism and Frustration with Christianity, Barna Group, 2007)

Let’s help people move away from hectic patterns and towards a renewed sense of awe, mystery, and gratitude. Together let us feel the Divine and relish the Sacred. Let’s invite the questions of meaning, faith and transcendence and wrestle with the relevance of being a disciple of Jesus in our time. Our souls hunger for communities that are transformational—communities that live out justice, reconciliation, grace, and reconnect us to the source of life.

There will be a designated time during the worship service on November 12th to bring our commitment cards forward to be blessed. As always, these cards represent our best intentions based on what we know at the present time. They can, at any time, be adjusted should your circumstances change.
